Objectivity as means vs. objectivity as ends

“Objectivity excuses lazy reporting. If you’re on deadline and all you have is “both sides of the story,” that’s often good enough.”

If journalists confuse “objectivity as means” with “objectivity as ends”, what should be its ends?
